Mr. Robert Thomas Setzer, affectionately known by many as Bob, age 75, of Green Pond, entered into his state of eternal rest Wednesday morning, March 10, 2010, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Betty Kearney Setzer.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Saturday afternoon, March 13, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend James W. Williams, Jr. officiating. Entombment, with Military Honors provided by the United Sates Navy and Masonic Rites as conferred by Unity Masonic Lodge, No. 55 will follow in Glendale Memorial Chapel Mausoleum, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Mr. Setzer was born March 6, 1935, in Timberlake, North Carolina. He served his country faithfully in the United Sates Navy having served for twenty years entering in 1951 and serving until his honorable discharge in 1971. During his career in the service he saw action in the Korean Conflict and reached the rank of E-7. He married his late wife, Mrs. Betty Kearney Setzer in December of 1953 and together they moved their home to the town of Green Pond in 1981. He was also a retired maintenance superintendent with the North Charleston Sewer District. He was a member of Unity Masonic Lodge, No. 55 Ancient Free Masons, was of the Baptist faith, and was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.
Surviving are: two daughters, Cynthia J. Thomas of Cottageville and Laura A. Parks of Summerville; a sister, Ann Rice of Oxford, North Carolina; and a longtime friend, Calvin Bass of Dugspuk, Virginia. There are six grandchildren, Michael Myrick, Anna Eddy, John Thomas, Jeffery Setzer, Patrick Thomas, and Bryan Bowie; and five great grandchildren that also survive.
