Robert Lee Selvy

March 23, 1939 — November 17, 2016

Boatswains Mate Robert Lee Selvy United States Navy (Ret.), affectionately known by many as “Bob”, age 78, of Walterboro, entered into rest Thursday evening, November 17, 2016, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

A memorial service with military honors will be held 6 o’clock Tuesday evening, November 22, 2016, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony.

Born March 23, 1939, in New Martinsville, West Virginia he made the lowcountry of South Carolina his home for the past thirty years.  He served in the United States Navy where he retired as a Boatswains Mate.  He also served in the Merchant Marines and was a retired heavy equipment operator.  He was of the Christian faith and will always be remembered for love of the outdoors, working in his yard and the joy he had with mechanic work.  Most of all, he will be remembered for his strong work ethic.

Surviving are: his wife of thirty-five years, Mrs. Merle Hiott Selvy; four children, Andrew Selvy and his wife Ashley of Walterboro, Kathy Kemp of Tennessee, Larry Peters of Moncks Corner, and Billy Peters of Walterboro; a brother, John Selvy and his wife Arlene of Ohio; and fifteen grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by three sons, Robert Lee Selvy, Jr., Gary Lee Peters, and Lamar R. Peters; and two brothers, Frank Selvy and Jim Selvy.   He is also survived by his beloved dog, Coco.
