Robert Etchieson

Master Chief Radioman Robert Laurence Etchieson, United States Nany (Ret.), age 72, of the Shady Oaks Subdivision in Walterboro, entered into rest eternal Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2017, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.

The funeral litany will be conducted with full military honors 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, March 15, 2017, from the Columbarium in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel, Walterboro.  The family will receive friends following the service at Glendale Memorial Cemetery.

Born September 13, 1944, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he was a son of the late Orel Desmond Etchieson and the late Sara Adeline Norris Etchieson.  He served our country faithfully, entering the United States Navy on 13 September 1961 being stationed aboard submarine vessels, having seen action during the Vietnam Ear and retiring with the rank of Master Chief Radioman on 30 June 1985.    He was of the Episcopal faith and was a member of the Warhorse Brotherhood Motorcycle Club.  He enjoyed poetry and will always be remembered for the love he possessed for his family, especially his grandchildren.

Surviving are: his wife of forty-eight years, Mrs. Joan Jensen Etchieson; three children, Robert Dale Etchieson of Ladson, Margaret Renee Etchieson Hall of Summerville, and Nicole Lynn Etchieson Bootle and her husband Everett of Walterboro; and a brother, Orel Dale Etchieson.  There are seven grandchildren, James Etchieson, Brandon Etchieson, Logan Etchieson, Joshua Hall, Brooke Edwards, Haley Bootle, and Jeb Bootle; as well as two great grandchildren, Vitanii Etchieson and Alex Etchieson.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Etchieson; and a sister, Wanda Ely.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to:  Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
