Robert Russell Elsey, Sr., 87, of Round O, entered into rest Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston.
Mr. Elsey was born February 16, 1936 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a son of late Lawton Ansel Elsey and Anzie Burbage Elsey.
He was an airplane engineer for Lockhead Martin and was a member of Maple Cane Baptist Church in Cottageville. His greatest happiness in life came from fishing. He enjoyed traveling, especially to the Ashville and Cherokee areas of the Great Smokey Mountains. He will always be remembered for the smile that he possessed and his always comical nature. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Jones Elsey; and his three children, Kimberly Cottingham, Robin Cottingham, and Rusty Elsey, Jr.
Surviving are: his eight grandchildren, Amber Shockley, Hillary Cottingham, Caitlin Cottingham, John Shockley, Rebecca Cottingham, David Cottingham, Julia Cottingham, and Nicholas Elsey; as well as nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Norma.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock Friday morning, August 11, 2023, from the graveside in Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston. The Reverend Dr. David Anderson officiating.
