Mr. Robert Cecil Carter, 70, of 471 Dandridge Road, Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Wednesday morning, December 22, 2010, at his residence.



Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Monday morning, December 27, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The family has requested that members of the Walterboro City Police Department would serve as honorary escorts, and their presence would be requested to meet at The Funeral Chapel at 10:30 that morning.



Mr. Carter was born November 5, 1940, in Bamberg County, and was a son of the late Milton Carter and the late Pauline Robertson Carter. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army and was a member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church in Walterboro. Work was Bobs life and his dedication to his work was never-ending. He was a graduate of the College of Charleston where he received his degree in Criminology. He worked for the City of Walterboro for thirty-five years, twenty-eight years of which he was actively involved in the City Police Department. Over those years he held various capacities within the department to include Assistant Chief of Police and retired with the rank of Lieutenant. After his retirement, he continued his work with criminology. He was a private Evidence Investigator for ten years having worked from his privately owned company for the City of Walterboro.



Among his achievements in life was having the distinguished honor of being awarded with the Key to the City, as a result of his dedication to his work and the people of Walterboro. He will be fondly remembered for his love and talent of wood crafting, as well as his love of riding bicycles



Surviving are: his wife of fifty years, Mrs. Hermine Staudel Carter; two sons, Robert W. Bobby Carter and his wife Mary Ann of Columbia and Michael A. Carter and his wife Marcy of Marion, North Carolina; and a sister, Lucille C. Lyons of Mashawville. There are four grandchildren, Robert E. Robby Carter, Sarah Alston Carter, Michaela Alise Carter, and Mileigha Nichole Carter that also survive.
