Robert Burns, Sr

Mr. Robert William Burns, Sr., affectionately known by many as “Bob”, age 75, entered into rest Tuesday afternoon, November 4, 2014, at his home on Orchard Road in Yemassee.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, November 7, 2014, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.

Born April 15, 1939, in Louisiana, he was a son of the late Carl Cornelius Burns and the late Dorothy Rice Burns. He served our country in the United States Navy where he became a Master Electrician and served in that capacity. He was the founder and owner of Burns Electrical Contractors. Inc. a business which he operated successfully for many years becoming a well-known and highly sought after electrician in our community. Horses were Bob’s greatest admiration in life. He was a lifelong member of the American Cutting Horse Association and throughout his life as an Equestrian he was privileged to be honored with numerous awards and accommodations. He dearly loved his cutting horse, “Badger” and always cherished the work and quality of his horse. He was also a private pilot. He was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church in Walterboro.

Surviving are: two daughters, Cynthia Burns Driggers and her husband Gary of Yemassee and Brenda Burns Jackson and her husband Anthony of Mayo, Florida; two sisters, Nora and Donna; and a daughter-in-law, Donna Burns . There are nine grandchildren, Robbie Burns, Heather Reynolds, Daniel Garnsey, Andrew Burns, Zachary Burns, Nicholas Burns, Diane Crosby, Toni Sherrell, and Taylor Jackson; as well as nine great grandchildren, Ryan, Hannah, Wyatt, Christopher, Addylan, Derby, Xander, Hannah, and Gavin. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert William “Bobby” Burns, Jr.; and two grandchildren, Jacob Burns and Richard Caulder, II.
