Robert Borders

Biography

Mr. Robert Charles Borders, affectionately known to everyone as "Bob", 86, of Cottageville, entered into eternal rest Monday, September 17, 2012 at Harvest Health and Rehab of John's Island. He was the husband of the late Patricia Benton Borders.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm, Thursday, September 20, 2012 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. Interment with full military honors will follow at Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.

Mr. Borders was born February 15, 1926 in Harrisburg, Illinois and was a son of the late Frank Borders and Edith Keeling Borders. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1963 and retired as a Boatswain Mate, First Class. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. After his service in the Navy, he worked with the Department of Natural Resources as a Game Warden from 1963 until 1990 when he retired as a Lieutenant. While working as a Game Warden, he did extensive undercover work for the U.S. Fishing and Wildlife Service. Mr. Borders served as the Chief of Police for the Town of Cottageville and lastly served as the Chief of the Cottageville Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Borders was a patriotic man who dearly loved his country and law enforcement, always doing anything he could to serve them. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting, and enjoyed watching westerns. He was a member of the Walterboro Elks Lodge and attended Cottageville Baptist Church.

Surviving are: his children, Linda Borders Becker and her husband Loren of St. Charles, Illinois, and Cindy Borders Easterlin and her husband Tommy of Charleston; step children, Denmon Albert "Bert" Benton of Cottageville, and John Marshall "Marty" Benton of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Sam Becker, Neil Becker, Michael Acker, Nicole Acker, Robbie Easterlin, Brandon Easterlin and Dawn Stewart; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Eric Becker; and two brothers, Edward Lee Borders and J.T. Borders.
