Robert Hugh Bassett, Jr.

Mr. Robert Hugh Bassett, Jr., 88, a resident of the Veteran’s Victory House in Walterboro, entered into rest Monday evening, December 8, 2025.

Born September 22, 1937, in Des Moines Iowa, he was a son of the late Robert Hugh Bassett, Sr. and the late Matie Bernice Paine Bassett. He was a graduate of North Central College where he obtained his Bachelor degree. He served faithfully in the United States Army as a General Supply Specialist and served in the Infantry. He was an accountant for CMI Property Management.

Surviving are: two nephews, Alan R. Fortner (Lynn) and Scott Fortner (Celeste); a niece, Cheryl Fortner; and dear friends, Roberta Maxfield, Pat Augustitus, and Bob Salyers. Robert was preceded in death by his sister Sondra J. Bassett Fortner a/k/a Cookie and his brother-in-law Alan Fortner, Sr.

The family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to: Veteran’s Victory House, 2461 Sidneys Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
