Mr. Robert Henry Ackerman, 66, of Walterboro, entered into rest Wednesday afternoon, January 21, 2015, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 oclock Monday afternoon, January 26, 2015, from Beaufort National Cemetery, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort. The Reverend Mike Bowers officiating.
Born May 22, 1948, a native of Colleton County, he was a son of the late Nelson Ackerman and the late Mae Graham Ackerman Riley. He served our country faithfully in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era having been stationed in Vietnam for thirteen months. He was retired and of United Methodist faith. He will be fondly remembered as an avid sportsman as well as an excellent cook who was known for his chili and beef stew. He spent countless hours admiring and caring for birds.
Surviving are: son, Dallas Ackerman and his wife Nicole Ackerman of Walterboro; two sisters, Ella Mae Bowers and her husband Mike of Wellford and Peggy Hudson and her husband Kim of Ruffin; his faithful companion, Mary Alice Lynch; four grandchildren, Brooke Ackerman, Caleb Rabon, Cassidy Ackerman, and Hannah Biering. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Mary E. McGhie as well as one niece and two nephews.
