Ms. Rita Goethe Montjoy, 69, of Walterboro, wife of the late Larry Montjoy, passed away Friday afternoon, April 9, 2021, at her residence.

Rita was born May 3, 1951 in Asheboro, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Judy Craven Dula and Rome Wakefield Dula, Jr.

Rita was extremely talented at seamstress work and crocheting.   She would spend endless hours making clothes for her family and crocheting gifts for others.  She was also an excellent cook and baker.  She loved spending time with friends and family and had a true heart of gold.  She would be quick to tell you her greatest gifts were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, April Goethe of Walterboro and Clint Goethe of Smoaks; stepchildren, Melinda Risher (Edward), Sara Hiers (Allen), and Andy Montjoy all of Walterboro; twelve grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.   She is also survived by three sisters, Brenda Ivey (Paul) of Myrtle Beach, Wanda Walker Davis (Bill) of Franklinville, North Carolina, and Debbie Smith (Craig) of Cary, North Carolina.  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Whitlock and Theresa Workman.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in her memory to: Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
