Richie Ferguson

Mrs. Richie Poland Ferguson, 81, of Meeting House Lane, Cottageville, entered into rest Friday evening, September 20, 2013, at Saint George Health Care. She was the devoted and loving wife of The Reverend Leon C. Ferguson for sixty-two years at his death in 2009.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Monday morning, September 23, 2013, from Edisto Pentecostal Holiness Church, 24576 Augusta Highway, Cottageville. The Reverend James Beverly and The Reverend Howard Wright officiating. Interment will follow on the family plot in Meeting House Cemetery, Meeting House Lane, Cottageville.

Born December 31, 1931, a native of Dorchester County, she was the daughter of the late Richard Poland and the late Mary Estelle Poland Ackerman who then married the late Harvey Ackerman following Mr. Poland's death during Richie's early childhood years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She was a talented seamstress and great southern cook who's sweet and gentle sprit will forever be cherished in the memories of those who knew her. As a dedicated wife and Christian, she worked alongside her late husband when charting the Edisto Pentecostal Holiness Church in 1949. She was active in many aspects of the church's work to include having been the church's secretary and treasurer for numerous years and also having served as a Sunday School teacher.

Surviving are: four children, Brenda Evans of Branchville, Shirley Frasier and her husband William of Ridgeville, Donald Ferguson and his wife Diane of Cottageville, and Gerald Ferguson and his wife Christi of Cottageville; There are eight grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews that also survive. She was predeceased by her infant son, Little Ricky who passed away December 24, 1956; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Warmington.
