Mr. James Richard Woodside, 89, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Sunday morning, October 19, 2025, at Magnolias of Walterboro. He was the husband of the late Louise Trusler Woodside to whom he was married 51 years.
Born November 28, 1935, in Monroe, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Dewey Ralph Woodside and Daisy Belle Gray Woodside. He served for six years in the North Carolina Air National Guard. He retired from Palmetto Rural Telephone Cooperative as a Construction Supervisor. Mr. Richard was a faithful member of Edgewood Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. There were not many things that happened at the church that he was not a part of, but he especially enjoyed helping with the Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, and changing the church sign. He was a true people person and never met a stranger. In retirement, he became passionate about witnessing others. Most of all, his family life was of utmost importance to him.
Surviving are: his three sons, Lowell E. Shell and his wife Linda of Elizabethton, Tennessee, Richard Wayne Shell and his wife Kathleen of Walterboro, and SMSGT USAF (Ret.) Randal M. Shell and his wife Sue of Las Vegas, Nevada; twelve grandchildren, Sherry Player, Stephani Shouse, John Cole, Kimberly Mock, Staci Peters, Kristi Zimmerman, Keri Howell, Kelly Sokoloski, Kristin Hoffman, Cassie Anderson, Landon Shell, and Makailah Marshall; fourteen great grandchildren, Taylor Cole, Gavin Peters, Shyann Webster, Tiffany Shouse, Cody Zimmerman, Nicolas Perry, Eli Zimmerman, Dalton Shouse, Hayden Mock, Elise Anderson, Cole Howell, Emmalyn Anderson, Hank Sokoloski, and Koen Shell; and two great great grandchildren, Carver Peters and Milli Peters.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that desire, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Edgewood Baptist Church Food Pantry Fund, 138 Wildwood Drive, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o’clock, Saturday morning, October 25, 2025, at Edgewood Baptist Church, 138 Wildwood Drive, Walterboro. The Reverend Rodney Lyons officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro.
