Mr. Richard Allen Harrison, 76, of Ruffin, died Tuesday evening, December 27, 2022, at Trident Medical Center after a short illness. Richard was born December 26, 1946, in Asheville, North Carolina, and was the son of the late Billy Bob Harrison and Ethel Shackleford Harrison. Richard is survived by his wife of 23 years, Margaret Waltz Harrison.
Richard spent a large part of his career as an over-the-road truck driver. After retirement, he was a great auto mechanic, good plumber, electrician, and builder. He also enjoyed helping his wife, Margaret, make crafts.
He was a member of Smoaks Baptist Church and was a kind, loving, caring, hard-working Christian man who loved the Lord. He loved joking with people and helping his fellow man.
In addition to his wife, survivors include: one son, Kris Thomas (Jett) of Millersville, Maryland; three stepdaughters, Molly Strader (Mike) of Dallas, Texas, Melanie Thompson (Stephen) of Krum, Texas, and Mandy Malak of Highland Springs, Virginia; three grandsons, William, Benjamin, and Nicholas Thomas; three step granddaughters, Alexa Harris, Caitlin Harris and Macy Caughman; as well as one step great grandson, Charlie. Also surviving are: two sisters, Janice (Mike) Witt of Kirkland, Arizona and Lynn (Desmond) Sipes of Sterling, Virginia; brother-in-law, Keith Ulmer of Ruffin; sister-in-law, Frances (Robert) Baggett of Walterboro; sister-in-law, Karen Waltz of Tifton, Georgia; and brother-in-law, Roger (Sonya) Waltz of Smoaks.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to: Smoaks Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 482 Lodge Highway, Smoaks, South Carolina 29481; or to: Connie Maxwell Children’s Home, 810 Maxwell Avenue, Greenwood, South Carolina 29646.
A memorial service will be held 2 o’clock, Sunday afternoon, January 1, 2023, at Smoaks Baptist Church. The Reverend Dan Stroman officiating.
