Rhett Mixon

Mr. Russell Everett Mixon, known by all as “Rhett”, age 54, of Walterboro, entered into rest Sunday afternoon, May 17, 2026, at Memorial Health in Savannah, Georgia.

Born October 11, 1971, in Hampton County, South Carolina, he was a son of Mr. Russell Clark Mixon and the late Mrs. Frances Altman Stophel. The co-owner of Lowcountry Fence in Walterboro, he will be forever remembered for the part he performed in the countless fencing jobs he completed with great expertise throughout South Carolina and Florida. Rhett loved the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, hunting, as well as fishing and being on his tractor. His iconic laugh will always remain a memory in the hearts of those who he dearly loved.

Surviving are: his father Russell Mixon (Marsha Stanley) of Hampton; his step-father, Jim Stophel (Barbara Forrest) of West Virginia; a brother, Kevin Mixon (Donna Gail) of Ruffin; and two nieces, Sarah Hayden (Brandon) and their children Owen and Addison; and Amanda Alvarez (Bryan) and their son, B.J.; and a large host of Aunts, Uncles as well as countless cousins and many special friends he considered as family.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions in his memory to:  Northside Christian Church, Post Office Box 1793, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.  

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, May 22, 2026, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Jerry Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Sand Hill Cemetery, Pocotaligo Road near Varnville.
