Reginald H. Hickman, Sr.

May 7, 1942 — May 2, 2019

Walterboro, South Carolina

Reginald “Reggie” Horace Hickman, Sr., 76 of Walterboro, entered in rest Thursday, May 2, 2019, while surrounded by his loving family at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.

Born May 7, 1942 in Walterboro, South Carolina, his parents were Horace “Sox” Hickman and Sheba Hiott Hickman who predeceased him. He served in the South Carolina National Guard and worked as a pipefitter at the Charleston Naval Shipyard until his retirement. Following that, he worked for several years with Coastal Electric in Walterboro.

He enjoyed several hobbies: he never missed a Clemson game, and on those days you could easily spot him wearing his Clemson orange sweat suit! But his greatest passions were fishing on the Ashepoo River and the family has a lot of “fish stories” about adventures with Reggie. He was also a natural engineer and known to be able to repair and make new almost any object with complicated moving parts. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Walterboro.

Reggie was devoted to his family, especially his wife Lenore, and his four children. He was proud of all them, and played pied piper to their children, who enjoyed riding with Granddaddy on his golf cart.

Surviving Reggie are Lenore Rawlings Hickman; four children Reginald H. Hickman, Jr. of Walterboro, Linda Jean Thompson (Aubrey) of Walterboro, Christopher Duane Hickman (Darlene) of Lexington, SC., and Monica Hickman Hadwin (Allen, Jr) of Erwin, NC., two step-children, William J. Altman, of Harrisburg, PA, and Penny A. Strickland (Craig) of Ruffin, SC.  Reggie is survived by ten grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces who adored Granddaddy. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Howard Hickman, his sister, Shirley Hickman Wilsonand stepson, Grayson L. Alton, and step grandson, Andrew Thompson.

The family requests that memorial contribution be directed in his memory to: St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee, 38105 or donate at: www.stjude.org.

Funeral services will be conducted 4 o’clock Sunday afternoon, May 5, 2019, from the graveside at Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.
