Mr. Raymond Edward Smyly, 74, of Ruffin, entered into eternal rest Friday, July 18, 2014 at Trident Health System in Charleston. He was the husband of Sarah Ann Hiers Smyly for 53 years.
A memorial service will be held 7:00 pm, Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel. The family will receive friends at 6:00 pm Monday until the hour of service. Private graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family ask for memorials to be made to Colleton County Chapter of Relay For Life.
Born January 2, 1940, in Colleton County, he was a son of the late Edward English Smyly and Leona Moore Smyly. He was a retired supervisor with Country Miss and was a Jehovah's Witness. He loved to fish in his younger years and was an avid fan of the Carolina Gamecocks and Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed watching western movies and loved spending time with his wife and his family.
Surviving are: his wife, Sarah Ann Hiers Smyly, two sons: Tony Smyly and his wife Kathy of Ruffin, Greg Smyly and his wife Donna of Ruffin and a daughter: Yvonne Herndon and her husband Benjie of Ruffin, grandchildren: T.J., English, Bryce, and Tanner Smyly, Brantley Walling, Frankie, Mark, and Allen Jacques,
3 Great grandchildren: Quay, A.J. and Shawn Jacques; his brothers, Lamar and Allen Smyly. Numerous cousins, nephews and nieces also survive. He was predeceased by a brother, Henry Smyly.
