Chief Warrant Officer Raymond Eugene Decker, United States Navy (Ret.), age 71, entered into rest eternal Sunday afternoon, December 20, 2015, at his home in Walterboro.
The family will receive friends this Sunday afternoon, December 27, 2015, during a time of visitation from 3 o’clock until 5 o’clock at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Homes, Walterboro Chapel, 1193 Bells Highway, Walterboro.
Chief Warrant Officer Raymond will be laid to rest by Burial At Sea with his casket departing from the Naval Base at Portsmouth, Virginia.
Born January 5, 1944, in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Raymond and Mary Decker. He served faithfully in the United States Navy as a Physician’s Assistant retiring after twenty-three years as a Chief Warrant Officer. Having made the Lowcountry of South Carolina his home for more than twenty years, he worked at the Estill Department of Corrections where he retired in 2003 as a Physician’s Assistant. He was of the Roman Catholic faith. He will always be remembered for the love and devotion he possessed for his wife as well as the passion he had for antique cars, having restored many beautiful old cars and also in prior years having be involved with area car clubs.
Surviving are: his wife, Mrs. Brenda Crumpton Decker; three children, Tamala Diane Capps of Franklin, Louisiana, Theodore Otis Nicewonger of Summerville, and Tebrea Joye Duffey of Summerville; and two brothers, Paul Murphy and Robert Murphy. There are eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Colleton County Relay for Life, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406.
