Master Sergeant Ralph Eugene Solomon, Jr., United States Marine Corp. (Ret.), age 72, of 182 Loblolly Street, Walterboro, entered into his state of eternal rest Wednesday morning, March 3, 2010, at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro. He was the husband of the late Mrs. Barbara Ann Lemacks Solomon.



Funeral services will be conducted 3 oclock Sunday afternoon, March 7, 2010, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Fr. Donald Abbott officiating. Interment with full Military Honors as provided by the United States Marine Corp will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. The family has requested that all attending administration and staff of the South Carolina Department of Transportation serve as honorary escorts.



Mr. Solomon was born October 26, 1937, in Brockton, Massachusetts and was a son of the late Ralph Eugene Solomon, Sr. and the late Grace Eleanor Mullins Solomon. He served his country faithfully in the United States Marine Corp having served during the Vietnam conflict and having earned the distinguished rank of Master Sergeant at his retirement. He was a retired trade specialist from the South Carolina Department of Transportation and was of the Roman Catholic faith. He will be remembered for his love of collecting coins and stamps, as well as his love of fishing the local creeks of Colleton County.



Surviving are: a son, Richard Solomon and his wife Connie of Hardeeville; two daughters, Deirdre Kinard of Walterboro and Catherine Devin and her husband Mike of Virginia Beach, Virginia; a step-son, Lance Corporal Andy Strickland and his wife Danielle of Walterboro; two step-daughters, Lisa Michelle Strickland of Walterboro and Stephany Ann Strickland Simms of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, John Solomon of Alabama; and a sister, Pat Lawson of Massachusetts. There are twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren; as well as a beloved and longtime dear friend, Mr. A.B. Kennedy that also survives.



Flowers will be accepted or for those that wish, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Colleton County Relay for Life, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406; or to, Odyssey Health Care Hospice, 5965 Core Road, Suite 603, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406.
