Biography
Mr. Quillie Joe Harriott, Sr., affectionately known by many as "Mr. Joe", age 70, of Winchester Road, Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Wednesday morning, July 6, 2011, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 o'clock Saturday morning, July 9, 2011, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Sandy Dam United Methodist Churchyard, 3422 Charleston Highway, Walterboro.
Mr. Harriott was born October 14, 1940, in Hampton County, and was a son of the late Frank Harriott and the late Effie DeWitt Harriott. He worked for Capital Security in Walterboro where he retired as an Insurance Agent, a job and a career in which he demonstrated his strong work ethic, making him a well known face around the Walterboro community. His love for being active and involved with people led him to also during his life, to work for nearly twenty-five years as Security Officer at the former Colleton County Hospital. Mr. Joe always had time for any friend he came across and he loved to spend time with family and was always very dedicated to the woman he loved dearly. Another love of his outside of his family was fishing the local creeks of Colleton County, always throwing a pole in the water whenever possible.
Surviving are: his wife of forty-eight years, Mrs. Ruby Warren Harriott; one son, Quillie Joe Harriott, Jr. and his wife Terry of Ruffin; a daughter, Sarah Jane Bowyer and her husband Ricky of Walterboro; two brothers, John Harriott of Burgan, North Carolina and Wallace Harriott of Scotia; and a sister, Marselle Staton of Ohio. There are two grandchildren, Rebecca Jane Clark and Veronica Lynn Bowyer that also survive.
