Pippy Tuten

d. November 9, 2024

Varnville, South Carolina

Mrs. Marilyn Pope Tuten, affectionately known to everyone as “Pippy”, 89, of Varnville, entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 9, 2024, at Memorial Health in Savannah, Georgia.  She was the wife of the late Charles Tuten.

Born October 23, 1935, in Hampton, she was a daughter of the late Harry Pope and Florence Askew Pope.  She was a member of First Christian Church of Hampton.  If you knew Mrs. Pippy, you knew that she was an avid cookie jar collector and enjoyed collecting many other things.  She loved going to the Springfield Flea Market and any yard sale she could find, and enjoyed playing Marbles with her late brother, Richard and her sister-in-law, Patsy. She also loved her community and never missed an opportunity to attend the Watermelon Festival and especially cheering on the participants in the annual parade.  Most of all, Pippy loved her family, and the genuine love and smile that she always greeted everyone with will be deeply missed.

Surviving are: her children, Marilyn DeLoach of Hampton and Wendell Tuten of Hampton; grandchildren, Walt DeLoach, Blake DeLoach, Kyle Tuten, Jeb Dobson, and Leah Tuten; 6 great grandchildren; one that she raised and loved as her own, Janet Muckenhirn of Varnville, and her sons, David Lee and Justin Nix; and sister-in-law, Patsy Pope of Hampton.  She was preceded in death by her son, Charles Tuten, Jr.; and her brothers, Jimmy Tapley and Richard Pope.

Funeral services will be held 3 o’clock, Friday afternoon, November 15, 2024, 400 Holly Street West, Hampton.
