Biography
Mr. Pierce Eugene Hughes, 80, of Cottageville, entered into his eternal rest Saturday evening, July 2, 2011.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, July 6, 2011, from the graveside at Gruber Cemetery, Highway 61, Cottageville with The Reverend Bobby Etheridge officiating.
The family will receive friends following the committal ceremony at the cemetery.
Mr. Hughes was born August 8, 1931, in Colleton County, and was a son of the late J.P. Hughes and the late Sarah Huff Hughes. He served his country in the United States Army and was a carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are: a daughter, Nancy Hughes Pye and her husband Mickey of Cottageville; a son, Joseph Hughes of Cottageville; and four sisters, Dorothy Ferguson of Cottageville, Virginia Reeves of Cottageville, Eva Ferguson of Cottageville, and Gladys Carter of Ridgeville. There are three grandchildren, Mickey Joe Pye, April Mixon, and Rebecca Mixon and three great grandchildren, Michelle, Mackenzie, and Diamond. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Hughes Mixon; a granddaughter, Angel Marie Pye; and a brother, Esdorn Hughes.
