Biography

Perry Wise Kellam, 81, of Round O, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, July 11, 2011 at his home under the care of Piedmont Hospice, with his family by his side.

A celebration of his life will be conducted 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, July 16, 2011, from the Hendersonville Baptist Church, 893 Batchelor Hill Road, Walterboro, with The Reverend Gerald Mabry officiating. Burial will be in Keller, Virginia.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church social hall.

Perry was born on September 10, 1929 in Melfa, Virginia and was a son of the late John Clarence Kellam and the late Carrie Mears Kellam. Perry was the father of five children including Debra Rawls of Palm City, FL, Mitch Kellam of Ft. Worth, TX, Robin Kellam of San Francisco, CA, Cynthia Mitchell of Summerville, and Rebekah Blacklocke also of Summerville. He had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, and four sisters.

Perry was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars having served faithfully for twenty years in the military. He retired from the Air Force in 1967 and then became a life insurance salesman, security guard and owner of his own lawn service. He spent his retirement on his beautiful property in Round O. There he raised many "feathered friends" including ducks, swans, chickens, geese, guineas, and pigeons. He enjoyed speaking on his local radio station and became known as the "Duckman".

In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to the following: Piedmont Hospice, 501-A Deanna Lane, Wando, South Carolina 29492; or to Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, South Carolina 29412.
