Mr. Pelham Franklin Davenport, affectionately known by many as "Frank", age 77, of 464 Lakeshore Drive, Walterboro, entered into his eternal rest Friday morning, May 6, 2011, at his residence.
Funeral services with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy, will be conducted 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, May 8, 2011 from the graveside at Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
Mr. Davenport was born April 10, 1934, in Fork Shoals, South Carolina and was a son of the late James Wayne Davenport and the late Margaret Lucille Whitt Davenport. He served his country faithfully in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, having been stationed aboard the aircraft carrier the USS Kearsarge and was a retired supervisor in the finishing department at J.P. Stevens Corporation in Walterboro. He was a former member of Welch Creek Baptist Church and was a member of Marietta First Free Will Baptist Church; he was also a Master Mason being a former member at Round Lodge No. 270 - Ancient Free Masons, in Cottageville.
Surviving are: his loving wife of fifty-six years, Mrs. Shirley Smith Davenport; two sons, Danny Franklin Davenport and his wife Teresa and Jack Wayne Davenport and his fiancé©e Cindy Rodgers both of Walterboro; two daughters, Pamela Hill and her husband Ron and Ginger Johnston both of Atlanta; and two brothers, Billy Ray Davenport of Pelzer and Ronald Davenport of Moonville. There are seven grandchildren, Catrina O'Quinn, Celina Davenport, Bill Carter, Heather Robinson, Ashely Carter, Brennan Johnston, and Christy Catterton; and fifteen great grandchildren that also survive along with his loving dog, Maggie.
The family would like to give their heart felt gratitude and appreciation to the administration and staff of Odyssey Hospice for the care and attention given to frank in his final days, especially his caregiver, Shelly.
