Paul Fleming

Paul Fleming, 66 of Cottageville, South Carolina entered into eternal rest unexpectedly on August 16, 2026. He was born in Augusta, Georgia on February 24, 1960 to the late Omer J. Fleming and the late Celestina (nee Bressan) Fleming.

Paul is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Cynthia Saari Fleming of Cottageville, SC; his two sons, Mark Fleming of Cottageville, SC and Michael Fleming Sr. of Davenport, FL; his grandchildren, Hailey Fleming and Michael Fleming Jr.; his sister, Margaret Michaud of Fayetteville NC; brothers, Robert Fleming of Apex, NC, Steve Fleming (Paula) of Fayetteville, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Loretta Montgomery; sister-in-law Debbie Fleming; and brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Michaud and Willie Montgomery.

Paul was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, as well as uncle to many nieces and nephews. He dedicated most of his life to serving others; beginning with his service in the United States Navy, where he worked as a hospital corpsman giving life-saving medical treatment to the Marines in the field. While serving, he developed a strong sense of duty and camaraderie and learned the importance of standing up for your values. After his honorable discharge, Paul continued serving the community working as a postal clerk for the US Postal Service where he became a friendly and familiar face. He loved his work and worked hard to ensure a good life for himself and his family.

After 18 years he retired, and after retiring from 2 federal jobs, he lived a life of leisure. He enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing but nothing compared to the enjoyment he shared with his family and dogs. Paul was a breeder of German Shepherds for many years. He loved spending time outdoors where the serenity of nature brought him peace. His dream was to travel and experience the world. He loved going to the beach, but his favorite place was the mountains, where he could really relax and enjoy special occasions with his family. He enjoyed watching his kids and grandchildren grow.

He was generous to those in need, even so much as carrying dog treats in his vehicle to give to stray dogs on the road. He was very easy to talk to and seemed to know something about everything, though he wasn’t a know it all, he just always seemed to have the right answer when you needed it. He was known for giving it to you straight, whether you liked it or not, and you could always count on him for a good laugh. He loved to smile and joke and was the most thoughtful person at times. It’s hard to think of a world without Paul, he was loved so much by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Those who knew Paul, knew he was a private person and due to his own personal wishes, there will be a private memorial held only for close family members.
