Dr. Paul Eckenbrecht

August 12, 1955 — April 11, 2016

Dr. Paul David Eckenbrecht, 60, of Ridgeway, SC, entered into eternal rest Monday, April 11, 2016, at Palmetto Richland-Columbia, after a long and hard-fought battle with glioblastoma.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o’ clock Saturday afternoon, April 16, 2016, at St. Johns Baptist Church, 2468 St. Johns Church Road, Ehrhardt.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery. A reception will be held at the church following the interment, all friends and family are invited to attend.

Born August 12, 1955, in Dayton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Earl Eckenbrecht and Anne D’Agostino Eckenbrecht. He was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson Medical School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he earned his medical degree as a doctor of anesthesiology. Dr. Eckenbrecht served his residency and fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was a chief resident. For the past 28 years, he worked as an anesthesiologist at Carolina Anesthesiology Associates in Columbia, South Carolina. As a hobby, he enjoyed hunting and playing golf. Most of all, Dr. Eckenbrecht was a loyal friend and loving father.

Surviving are: the mother of his children, Ms. Peggy Marks, of Irmo; three children, Andrew Eckenbrecht and his wife, Ashley, of Greenville, Autumn Thomason and her husband, Eric, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jeffrey Eckenbrecht, of Irmo; a sister, Lois Anne Eckenbrecht, of Columbia; a brother, Earl Eckenbrecht, Jr., of Liberty; as well as two beloved Rottweiler dogs, Daks and Ada.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the medical staff at Palmetto Richland, 11 East, for their extraordinary and compassionate care provided to Dr. Eckenbrecht and his family.
