Mrs. Patricia Anne Dugan, affectionately known by many as Pat, age 80, of 15 Cummings Court, Walterboro, entered into her eternal rest Wednesday evening, July 1, 2009, at the Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. She was the widow of Mr. John Kennedy Dugan.
Funeral services will be conducted 6 oclock Monday evening, July 6, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. An additional memorial service followed by the final commendation and farewell will follow at a later date in North Port, New York. The family has requested that the volunteers of Colleton Medical Center serve as honorary escorts at the funeral service.
Mrs. Dugan was born March 12, 1929, in Brooklyn, New York and was a daughter of the late George Adam Tjaden and the late Margaret Ritchie Tjaden. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Florida and was a retired registered nurse having retired from Southside Hospital in Bayshore, New York. She was a member of Saint Phillip Neri Roman Catholic Church in North Port, New York and locally she attended mass regularly at Saint Anthony Roman Catholic Church. Her great love of helping others and for the medical profession led her to volunteer, always helping others. For over fifteen years, she was a volunteer at Colleton Medical Center, and many will always fondly recall her beautiful smile at the front desk of the hospital and genuine need to help others. Along with her many friends she loved to travel, play bridge, and enjoy the company of others. She possessed a great love for her feline companions, who at most times received the majority of her attention.
Surviving are: three sons, John David Dugan of Walterboro, Bruce Dugan of North Port, New York, and James Scott Dugan of Charlottesville, Virginia; three daughters, Kerry Anne Dugan of North Port, New York, Casey Ellen Dugan of Roanoke, Virginia, and Kelly Dugan of North Port, New York; and two she loved as her own sons, Karl Winton of Arizona and Kenneth Schneider of North Carolina. There are fifteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, as well as her childhood friend and Saturday morning Scrabble partner, Dorothy Haws of Walterboro.
Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has suggested that a memorial be directed as a tribute to her life to: Colleton County Relay For Life, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406.
