Pastor Johnny Dewrell Mixson, 84, of 15943 Bells Highway, entered into his eternal rest Saturday evening, November 13, 2010, at his residence following a long and extended illness.



A celebration of his life will be conducted at 2 oclock Tuesday afternoon, November 16, 2010, from Community Baptist Church, 15943 Bells Highway, Lodge. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, located on Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin.



Following the committal ceremony at the cemetery, there will be a reception, hosted by Faith Baptist Church, held in the Fellowship Hall of Community Baptist Church.



Pastor Mixson was born September 28, 1926, in Hampton County, South Carolina and was a son of the late Wyman Mixson and the late Alma Ulmer Mixson. He worked for the Edisto Lumber Company, which is now known as Coastal Lumber Company beginning in 1958 and until becoming the full time pastor of Community Baptist Church in 1978. Pastor Johnny dedicated his entire life to the service of God. On January 4, 1970, realizing his call to minister to the people by establishing a house of God, he opened the doors to Community Baptist Church, and served faithfully for forty-one years as the Senior Pastor until his death. He, along with his family and church members was also instrumental in the founding and construction of Calvary Baptist Church in Walterboro.



Surviving are: his wife of sixty-one years, Betty Mae Stanley Mixson; eight children, Pastor Johnathan Dewrell Mixson, Sr. of Lodge, Vivian Mixson Priester of Smoaks, Randal Wade Mixson and his wife Terry Dantzler Mixson of Ruffin, Vicky Mixson Peters and her husband Gary Peters of Lodge, Timothy E. Mixson and his wife Sheila Ford Mixson of Lodge, Ronald Mark Mixson and his wife Tracey Fisk Mixson of Islandton, Roxanne Mixson Owens and her husband Randy Owens of Hampton, and Jan Mixson Krontz and her husband Jeff Krontz of Saint Stephen; and five sisters, Rita Mixson Bridges of Hampton, Ruth Mixson Frampton of Walterboro, Betty Mixson Heape of Cummings, Margaret Mixson of Hampton, and Annie Lou Mixson Mixon of Sea Brook. There are thirty-six grandchildren; and twenty-four great grandchildren that also survive. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Allen Priester; a daughter-in-law, Myrna Martin Mixson; a great grandchild, Noah Allen Priester; three brothers, Oswald Mixson, Curtis Mixson, and Willard Mixson; and a sister Rosa Nell Corbin.
