Otis Harrison

Mr. Otis Michael “Mike” Harrison, 71, of Varnville, formerly of Augusta, Georgia, entered into eternal rest Thursday evening, December 29, 2022 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Born August 3, 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia, he was a son of the late Otis Woodard Harrison and Margarette Williamson Harrison.  He worked for and managed Sky City for over 15 years and retired from Savannah River Site where he worked for over 20 years.  Otis enjoyed the annual Hampton County Watermelon Festival and served on its committee for many years. He oversaw the parade and festival t-shirts, and served as co-chair in 2004. He was always planting new flowers and kept his yard pristine. He enjoyed beach music, being out on the water, collecting nostalgic items, and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are: his wife, Karen Nettles Harrison; daughters, Stephanie Harrison of Beaufort, and Kelly Harrison Smith (Christian) of Columbia; grandchildren, Morgan Shaffer and Kelan Smith; brother, Daniel Harrison of Alaska; and sister, Deborah Thompson (Rusty) of Hepzibah, Georgia. Also surviving are: two brothers-in-law, Karl Nettles of Beaufort, and Dean Nettles of Walterboro; best friend, Walter Howard of Orlando, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 1 o’clock, Saturday, January 7, 2023, at The Brice Herndon Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel.  The family will receive friends following the service.
