Ongilene Garland

Biography

Ongilene "Ongie" Chastain Garland, of Cottageville, SC died November 23, 2011 at her home after a lengthy illness. Ongie was born September 12, 1929 in Toccoa, GA. She was the daughter David Eugene and Selma Mize Chastain of Toccoa, GA.

Alfred O. Garland, husband of 58 years, survives her. Her son Randy Garland and wife Katie, of Cocoa, Florida, along with their children, Randy, Jr., Collin, and Chad, and her daughter, Vickie Garland Malone and husband, Jerry B. Malone, of Summit, MS, and their children, Joshua, Alana, and Caleb, and granddaughter Jennifer Garland Balatbat, and husband Tony Balatbat, of Cottageville, SC, also survive her. Three special great granddaughters, Brianna, Megan, and Dalanie also survive her.

One brother, Leerell and Patricia Chastain of Gainesville, GA, and one special nephew, Bud Bowen, of Toccoa, Georgia, along with many other nieces and nephews also survive her.

Visitation will be held from 1 until 3 p.m. on Monday, November 28, at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Walterboro Chapel.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.
