Oliver Wendell Carter

Mr. Oliver Wendell Carter, 93, of Bells Highway in Walterboro, entered into rest Friday morning, October 3, 2014, at Cordele Health and Rehab in Cordele, Georgia. Wendell was the loving husband of sixty-one years to the late Mrs. Martha Polk Carter at the time of her death in 2009.

Funeral services with military honors will be conducted 11 o'clock Monday morning, October 6, 2014, from the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Hendersonville Highway, Walterboro. The family will greet family and friends following the committal ceremony at the cemetery.

Born April 29, 1921 on the Ashepoo Plantation in Green Pond, he was the last surviving son of the late Mr. Willie Henry Carter and the late Mrs. Zula Frank Carter. He was preceded in death by brothers Willis, Harry, Coy and Jimmy. He served in the United States Army as a Sergeant where he saw action in Central Europe. Mr. Carter was a member and former elder of First Christian Church of Walterboro.

Surviving are: his only child, Wendy Carter and his wife Amy of Warwick, Georgia; and grandson Wen Carter, III of Tifton, Georgia.
