Mr. Olin Johnson Crosby, Sr., affectionately known by all as "O.J.", age 75, of 5505 Featherbed Road, Round O, entered into his eternal rest Wednesday morning, May 4, 2011, at his residence.
Funeral services will be conducted 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 7, 2011, from Edgewood Baptist Church, 138 Wildwood Drive, Walterboro, with The Revered D. Lewis Faulkenberry and The Reverend Ralph Warren officiating. Interment, with Masonic Rites will follow Bedon Baptist Churchyard, 2410 Cottageville Highway, Walterboro. Serving as casket bearers will be: Cliff Dandridge, Jason Dandridge, Adam Dandridge, Paul Bennett, Wayne Stanfield, Eli Starcher, Pete Arnold, and Josh Headden; and serving as honorary escorts will be: Art Steinmeyer, Robert Thompson, Maxie Baxter, Nick Abdon, Denny Ryder, Paul Fleming; and those serving would need to assemble at the Narthex of Edgewood Church at 3:30 that afternoon.
Mr. Crosby was born August 18, 1935, in Round O, and was a son of the late George Wesley Crosby and the late Hazel Ruby Hiott Crosby. He served his country faithfully as a Private in the South Carolina National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1954. He then was employed with Asten Hill Manufacturing in Walterboro where he retired after thirty-seven and a half years of dedicated service as a supervisor having worked with calendar operations. He was a master mason holding his life membership at Bethlehem Lodge No. 381, Ancient Free Masons. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Deacon Board, head of the Men's Ministry, and was devoted to helping in the food pantry ministry. An avid outdoors man, he will be fondly remembered for his love of hunting large game American Whitetail deer and wild turkey and the love for working in his garden, always eager to share his harvest with friends, family and neighbors. All of the Walterboro community will remember him being an avid entertainer each morning on the "Swap Shop" radio show of Wally 93.7FM.
Surviving are: his wife of fifty-four years, Mrs. Bobbie Ann Stanfield Crosby; two sons, Olin J. "Bubba" Crosby, Jr. of Walterboro and Randolph Crosby of Summerville; two daughters, Libby Dandridge and her husband Jay of Cottageville and Mary Ann Varnadoe and her husband James of Round O; a brother, John Crosby of Walterboro; and two sisters, Ruth Nichols of Parkersburg, West Virginia and Inez Johns of Walterboro. There are five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren that also survive. He was preceded in death by a son, George Wesley Crosby; a grandson, Olin Crosby, III; three brothers; and two sisters.
