Oleta Goodwin

Mrs. Oleta Smith Goodwin, 89, of 205 Rivers Street, Walterboro, died Sunday afternoon, January 11, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was the wife of the late Mr. Robert C. Goodwin.



Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Wednesday morning, January 14, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro with The Reverend Dr. Randy C. Gardner officiating. Interment will follow in Smoaks Baptist Church Cemetery, 482 Lodge Highway, Smoaks.



Mrs. Goodwin was born October 23, 1919, in Smoaks, South Carolina and was a daughter of the late Lonnie Calvin Smith and the late Celia Calamine Strickland Smith. She was a longtime and active member of First Baptist Church of Walterboro where she was a member of several of the churchs organizations. She was an active member of Senior Friends and the Homemakers Association in Walterboro.



Surviving are: her daughter, Doby Goodwin Sauls and her husband Bob Sauls of Beaufort; four grandchildren, Todd Sauls and his wife Carey of Yemassee, Carmen Sauls Bell and her husband Chris of Beaufort, Brandon Sauls and his wife Whitney of Ocean Island Beach, North Carolina, and Robbie Goodwin of Rhode Island; and seven great grandchildren, Jake, Goodwin, and Charlie Sauls of Yemassee, Austin and Camryn Bell of Beaufort, and Sydney and Sloane Sauls of Ocean Island Beach, North Carolina. She was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Goodwin.



Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has suggested that memorials be directed in her memory to the following: Senior Friends, care of Colleton Medical Center, 500 Robertson Blvd., Walterboro, SC 29488; or to, First Baptist Church of Walterboro, for use with the Building Fund, Post Office Box 650, Walterboro, SC 29488.
