Norwood Gaites

Reverend Norwood A. Gaites, 86, of Swansea, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at UniHealth Post Acute Care in Columbia.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm, Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Carter’s Ford Baptist Church Cemetery.

Reverend Gaites was born August 2, 1927 in Gaston and was a son of the late Beverly Ira Gaites and Olivia Lucas Gaites. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army and was a retired Minister, having served many churches in the state of South Carolina. He loved growing tomatoes, but especially loved sharing them with everyone. Reverend Gaites was a true man of God, who devoted his life to ministering to others through sharing God’s word and giving anything he could to anyone in need.

He is survived by: his wife, Ruby Nell Gaites of Swansea; children, Delora Fonda Gaites Williams of Swansea, Ruben Alger Gaites of Gilbert and Beverly Teno Gaites of Swansea; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Benjamin Paul Williams; and 1 grandchild.
