Mr. Nolan Ray Bailey, II, age 79, of Walterboro, the “Famous Wrecker Driver” entered into rest Tuesday afternoon, March 24, 2026, at his daughter’s home leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love for family, friends, and community. His life was marked by generosity, dedication, and a genuine love for helping others.
Nolan proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his service, he worked as a manager at Pizza Palace in California, where he met the love of his life, Linda Jean Torpen Bailey, who preceded him in death. Their time together was filled with love and cherished memories.
Nolan was a devoted member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge – Walterboro Lodge No. 1988, where he served in many roles, including House Committee Chairman. He also chaired Youth Activities, organizing countless events such as Halloween celebrations, Christmas gatherings, Easter activities, hayrides, and many more. Nolan approached every project with enthusiasm and compassion. He especially loved working with children and found joy in creating memorable experiences for them. His dedication and willingness to serve left a lasting impact on the Lodge and the community.
In his free time, Nolan enjoyed attending NASCAR races, especially the Daytona 500, Darlington, and Charlotte. He also enjoyed attending concerts, spending time with family and friends, and relaxing with his beloved dog, Biscuit.
Nolan is survived by his three children, Robert John “Bobby” Bailey, Kimberly Bailey Jolly (John), and Michelle Bailey Phillips (Mike) all of Walterboro; five grandchildren, Bobby Jay "B.J." Bailey, Riley Bailey Phillips, Mason Jolly (Kenleigh), Britton Phillips, and Colton Jolly; four siblings, Bill Bailey (Sharon), Gerald Bailey (Jeanette), John R. Bailey, and Audrey Crosby (Gene); and someone he considered a daughter, Angela Lyons (Jason). He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews to include, Beth Dickey (Scott), Michael Bailey (Emily), Eric Bailey (Jessica), and Josh Bailey (Whitney) as well as extended family members and amazing friends from the Elks Lodge, NASCAR community, and beyond.
Nolan will be remembered for his generous heart, his love for creating memories for everyone, his love of animals, and his commitment to serving others. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to: Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter, 33 Poor Farm Road, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 o'clock Friday afternoon, March 27, 2026, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Mike Polk officiating. The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony.
