Mrs. Janita Benton Beckett, affectionately known to everyone as “Nita” or “Rat”, 67, of Walterboro, entered into eternal rest Wednesday morning, August 11, 2021 at Pruitt Healthcare in Walterboro. She was the widow of the late John “Sonny” Beckett.
Born April 24, 1954 in Walterboro, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Lee Benton and Marie Deery Crosby. She was a member of Canadys First Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the Walterboro School of Practical Nursing and for many years was an LPN at Oakwood Nursing Home in Walterboro.
Surviving are: her daughter and son-in-law, Eileen Mohr and Mark Hunt of Lumberton, North Carolina; step sons, Joe Herndon or Lumberton, North Carolina and Pete Beckett of Walterboro; grandchildren, Carolyn Copeland and her husband Max, Bobby Allen Breland, Joseph Herndon, Jesse Herndon, Devany Beckett, Scott Beckett and Shannon Beckett; great grandchildren, Ava Mohr, Abbygayle Mohr, Izabella Dean, Bailey Copeland, and one on the way; step father, Edwin “Shorty” Crosby; step brother, Stanley Crosby; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by two stepchildren, Johnny Beckett and Tika Beckett Patterson.
Funeral services will be held 11 am, Friday, August 13, 2021 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Entombment will follow at Glendale Memorial Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum, 2210 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro.
