Naomi Langdale Medlin

Mrs. Naomi Langdale Medlin, 78, of Walterboro, entered into rest Sunday morning, May 8, 2016.
Private funeral services will be held at a later date.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 7345 Jefferies Highway, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.
Mrs. Medlin was born January 9, 1938, in Colleton County, and was a daughter of the late Benjamin Heyward Langdale and the late Hazel Smith Langdale. Naomi dedicated her life to nursing. She worked in many capacities, to include, nurse, assistant, and anesthesiologist, for Dr. Jim Edwards in his oral surgery practice. Her immense respect for Dr. Edwards procured her a position in Columbia, following his election as Governor of South Carolina, where she worked as his Administrative Assistant in the Governor’s Office. Her career also seen positions at Roper Hospital and Baker Hospital in Charleston. She retired from the Medical University of South Carolina School of Medicine as Assistant to President, The Honorable Dr. Jim Edwards. Her dedication and career allowed her many privileges and opportunities along its way. She was awarded “The Order of the Palmetto” by Governor Edwards, which is one of the highest civilian awards known in South Carolina and was also recognized as a “Palmetto Lady” for her involvement in healthcare for others. She was a lifelong member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Walterboro and will always be remembered for her love of flowers and gardening.
Surviving are: two brothers, Harold Langdale and his wife Inez of Walterboro and Jervey Langdale and his wife Theresa of Alabama; and three sisters, Eugenia Horseman and her husband Larry of Delaware, JoAnn Craven and her husband Joe Ben of Walterboro, and Jeanette Craven and her husband Edward of Walterboro. There are numerous nieces and nephews that also survive. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Wilfred Langdale, Donald Langdale, Elizabeth Langdale and a baby brother.
