Mrs. Nancy Lyons Smith, 78, of Ruffin, entered into eternal rest Saturday morning, July 20, 2024, following a brief illness at Lowcountry Community Hospice in Summerville.
Born January 5, 1946, in Colleton County, she was a daughter of the late Walter Lyons and the late Susie Myers Lyons. She retired from J. P. Stevens in Walterboro after many years of working in manufacturing. She was a member of the Walterboro Church of God, having served in many areas of the church’s work. She was faithful in her dedication to her Lord and often worshipped and served where needed in many churches throughout the Lowcountry of Colleton County. She cherished the elderly with a special fondness, displaying unwavering dedication to nursing home ministry for many years. Nancy was always drawn to the wisdom and beauty found in the words of the Bible. Through poetry, the pen became her tool for praising Him, as well as sharing a message of hope, inspiration and redemption with others. She found joy working in the yard, witnessing the beauty of God’s creation while also finding solace and gratitude in the little things. She exemplified humility, always caring more about others and asking nothing in return.
Surviving are: her husband of fifty years, Mr. Benjamin Smith; four children, Harry Canady and his wife Charline, Larry Canady and his wife Becky, Lorrie Stockman and her husband David, and Mark Canady; a brother, Walter Marion Lyons and his wife Connie; a sister, Emmie Sue Hodges and her husband James, thirteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a large and loving host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Canady; and a grandson, Larry Canady, Jr.
