EHRHARDT- Mrs. Nancy Ellen Morningstar Peters, 74, of 317 Madison Street, Ehrhardt, died Saturday, May 17, 2008 at her residence.



Funeral services will be held 11 oclock, Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Ehrhardt Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Ehrhardt Cemetery.



Mrs. Peters was born September 6, 1933 in Ehrhardt and was a daughter of the late Clarence Bernard Morningstar and Ann Lamb Morningstar. Mrs. Peters was the first and only female that was elected as Mayor for the Town of Ehrhardt; additionally, she served on Ehrhardt Town Council for many terms. She was a retired rural mail carrier for the Olar mail route in Bamberg County. A longtime member of Ehrhardt Baptist Church, she was active in many aspects of her church and was also a member of the Young at Heart. A dedicated member of the Ehrhardt community, which she processed so much pride and love for, she was an icon in the planning of the towns annual Schutzenfest. She was also an advocate for the Mary Ann Morris Animal Protection Society, which was named after her late sister. She was a member of the Mail Carriers Union.



Surviving are: her husband of 55 years, Furman Delano Peters; children, Furman D. Peters, Jr. and his wife Lorri of Aiken, Judy Peters Varnes of Walterboro and Thomas Keith Peters of Ehrhardt; sister, Betty M. Martin of Islandton; sisters-in-law, Miriam McMillan of Lodge and Doris Cox of Virginia; grandchildren, Tommy Layden, Charles Glen Bishop, Angie Waltz, Chris Peters, Maggie Peters and Hunter Peters; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Clarence Eugene Gene Peters; and a sister, Mary Ann Morris.
