Mike Kring

April 9, 1940 — November 16, 2014

Mr. James Michael Kring, Sr., affectionately known to everyone as “Mike”, 74, of Shaw Drive, Hampton, entered into eternal rest Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held 11 am, Saturday, November 22, 2014 at The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Varnville-Hampton Chapel. Interment will follow in Crocketville Cemetery.

Born April 9, 1940 in Ashland, Kentucky, he was a son of the late Rudy Maywood Kring and Grace Estelle Brown Kring. He was a faithful member of Varnville United Methodist Church. He was dearly loved by his family and enjoyed spending quality time with them all.

His greatest passion in life, however, was for the outdoors. He was most at home in the peace and solitude of the woods and waters of South Carolina’s Lowcountry. For him, it was more than just hunting and fishing. It was the way he personally connected with God through nature and found spiritual peace and nourishment for his soul. He will be greatly missed by all of those, especially his own son and grandsons, who joined him in roaming the deep woods and fishing the wide waters. The spirit of who he was will always be a part of the outdoors that he loved so well.

Mr. Kring was employed by Westinghouse for 30 years, retiring as a Senior Lab Technician. He served the Hampton Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years, retiring as Assistant Fire Chief. He also served his country in the United States Air Force. Mike was raised to the degree of Master Mason on November 10, 1966 at Evergreen Lodge No. 153 in Hampton, SC. He served as Master Mason of Evergreen 153 until 1971 and remained in good standing as a Past Master until his passing. He will be sorely missed by all of his brothers.

Surviving are: his wife, Sarah Simmons Kring of Hampton; children, James Michael Kring, Jr. and his wife Aundrea of Elk River, Minnesota, and Becky Kring Moulder and her husband Scott of Seneca; sisters, Patricia Kring Ginn of Varnville and Carol Kring Ross of Columbia; and grandchildren, Grace Kring, Wesley Kring, Sarah Kring, Ella Kring, Micah Moulder, Elliott Moulder, and Olivia Moulder. He was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Kring.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to: Varnville United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 45, Hampton, South Carolina 29924.
