Mr. Michael Leroy Smoak, 42, 126 Meeting House Lane, Cottageville, entered into eternal rest Saturday afternoon, January 17, 2009, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro.



Funeral services will be conducted 3 oclock Monday afternoon, January 19, 2009, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Meeting House Cemetery, Cottageville.



Mr. Smoak was born January 13, 1967, in Colleton County and was a son of Margie Ferguson Crosby and the late James Daniel Smoak, Sr. He was a former cutter with Bishop Logging and was of the Holiness faith. An avid outdoors man, he was a member and past Vice-President of Community Hunting Club in Cottageville and was an honorary member of Camp Hall Hunting Club in Lebanon. He will be remembered by all for his love of the outdoors as well as hunting and fishing and for his strong devotion to his family.



Surviving in addition to his mother, Mrs. Margie Ferguson Crosby and step-father, Mr. Thomas W. Crosby, Sr. of Cottageville are: two sons, Michael I. Smoak and Bradley W. Smoak both of the home; four brothers, Jimmy D. Smoak and his wife Amy of Cottageville, Johnny Smoak and his wife Cindy of Saint George, Thomas Wade Crosby, II and his wife Jennifer of Saint George, and Jeffery Crosby and his wife Renata of Harleyville; a sister, April Lea Watson and her husband Todd of Cottageville; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Agnes Ferguson of Cottageville; and his step-grandfather, Benjamin H. Crosby of Walterboro. There are several Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins; as well as a nieces and nephews that survive him.
