Merle Hiott Selvy

December 18, 1938 — May 21, 2017

Mrs. Merle Hiott Selvy, 78, entered into rest Sunday morning, May 21, 2017, at her home in Walterboro.  She was the loving wife of the late Robert Lee “Bob” Selvy.

A memorial service will be held 6 o’clock Wednesday evening, May 24, 2017, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.   The family will receive friends following the funeral ceremony at the residence.

Born December 18, 1938, in Charleston County where she resided for a great deal of her live, she made Walterboro her home for the past twenty-seven years.  She was a daughter of the late Connie Theodore Hiott and the late Cleo Shealy Hiott.  She was a talented artist, who over the years crafted many beautiful and wonderful works.  She particularly enjoyed crafting dolls, and was also exceptional in knitting and quilting, as well as completed much upholstery work and stained glass art.  For a number of years, she worked in the restaurant industry and was her own food critic.  She was a member of the Quilters Guild and will always be remembered for the love she possessed for her late husband and beloved family.  She was a member of Bedon Baptist Church.

Surviving are: three children, William T. “Billy” Peters and his wife Olga, Larry Peters and his wife Theresa, and Andrew Selvy and his wife Ashley all of Walterboro; a brother, Teddy Hiott of Moncks Corner; and two sisters, Brenda Moore of Moncks Corner and Terry Tuggle of Charleston.  There are twelve grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren that also survive.   She was preceded in death by two sons, Lamar R. Peters, III and Gary Lee Peters.
