Mendel A. Martin

Ruffin, South Carolina

Mr. Mendel A. Martin, 82, of Ruffin, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family.  Mendel was the loving husband of 48 years to Veneta Iriel Martin.

Born March 13, 1943, in Colleton County, he was the son of the late Aimar Martin and the late Alma Kinard, and his stepfather, the late Moody Iriel.  He was a welder during his early years and then became a carpenter with Fisher Walter, owner of Walter Construction Company, Edisto Island for 35 years.  After retirement he enjoyed working on small engines.  There was not much Mendel couldn't do; he was a Jack of all Trades.  He loved to hunt and was a member of the Bailey Place Hunting Club.   Mendel loved his church, Shiloh Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for 38 years.

Surviving are: his beloved wife Veneta Iriel Martin, sons Timothy Taylor (Pam) of Ruffin, SC, Steven Martin (Michelle) of Pinellas Park, FL, and Ron Martin (Jennifer) of Ruffin, SC; ten grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by two sons Richard Taylor and Robert Martin, a daughter Valerie Martin, a brother Jimmy Martin, and two sisters Della Mae Bishop and Betty Kendall.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Saturday morning, July 26, 2025, from Shiloh Baptist Church, 10565 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin.  The Reverend Ricky Crosby officiating.  Interment will follow in the churchyard.

The family will receive friends preceding the service at 10 o’clock that morning in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed in his memory to: Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 10565 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Agape Hospice for the care they provided.
