Mrs. May Stanley Broadaway, 79, of Ruffin, entered into rest Wednesday morning, March 12, 2014, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was the wife of the late Mr. Leroy Broadaway.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, March 14, 2014, from the graveside at Black Creek Baptist Churchyard, 4931 Black Creek Road, Walterboro.
Born May 10, 1934, a native of Colleton County, she was a daughter of the late Manley Jim Stanley and the late Mattie Sheppard Stanley. For nearly twenty years, she resided in the Gainesville, Georgia area before moving back to the Lowcountry of South Carolina eight years ago. While in Georgia, she enjoyed giving to others through her volunteer work at their local hospital. She enjoyed and possessed a beautiful talent at playing the piano, crocheting, and seamstress work.
Surviving are: a daughter, Rita Gay Helton and her husband Michael of Ruffin; a brother, Milton Stanley of Walterboro; and four sisters, Frances Pendarvis of Harleyville, Althea O'Quinn, Jeanette Stanley, and Mattie Stanley all of Walterboro. There are seven grandchildren, Mark Burts, Azure Mackey, Amber Dantzler, Angela Stone, Lacey Helton, Matthew Crosby, and Seth Crosby as well as thirteen great grandchildren that also survive. She was preceded in death by a son, Clayton Crosby; and siblings, Homer Stanley, Carl Stanley, Margie Dropps, and Ralph Stanley.
