Mrs. Maudie Chassereau Harvey, 86, of Hampton, entered into eternal rest Saturday evening, July 1, 2023, at her residence. She was the widow of the late John Oliver Harvey.
Born April 22, 1937, in Jasper County, she was a daughter of the late Canie Cummings Chassereau and Tinnie Smith Chassereau. Mrs. Maudie was a homemaker and was a Special Needs School Teacher for many years. She was a member of Cypress Creek Baptist Church. She loved growing flowers and tending to her garden, but most of all loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandson Matthew.
Surviving are: her daughters, Sandra Roberts of Seabrook and Darlene Berry and her husband Robbie of Orangeburg; grandchildren, Matthew Berry, Clinton Roberts and Jennifer Bowen; great grandson, Brinton Roberts; brothers, Rufus Chassereau of Estill and Eugene Chassereau of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Buddy Roberts; and her siblings, Harold Chassereau, Hoyt Chassereau, Oregon Smith, Ruby Avant, Edna Hull, and Daisy Breland.
The family would like to especially thank Terry Sharpe, Sue Chewning, and the staff of Agape Hospice, as well as her loving caretaker, Ethel “Rudy” Ward, for all the love and care they gave Mrs. Maudie.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: American Diabetes Association or to the charity of one’s choice.
Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock, Wednesday afternoon, July 5, 2023 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Home, Varnville Chapel. Interment will follow in Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery, Old Salkahatchie Road, Early Branch.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation prior to the service beginning at 2 o’clock.
