Ms. Mattie Stanley Hickman, 73, of Walterboro, entered into rest Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at her residence.
Born April 21, 1951, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Manley Jim Stanley and the late Mattie Idell Sheppard Stanley. Mattie was a loom operator a J. P. Stevens in Walterboro for many years, and following that, she began to work as a small engine mechanic at Glen’s Small Engine and Walterboro Rental. She was a member of Hendersonville Baptist Church. She will always be remembered for her love of fishing and working in her garden.
Surviving are: her son, David Wayne Smith and his wife Melanie of Walterboro; nine grandchildren, Danielle Jacob (Andrew), Gabriel Smith, Savannah Jones, Sierrah Smith, Matthew Smith, Allason Pantano (Jon), Kelcey Cummings (Josh) Seth Sturtevant, and Cody Rose; eleven great grandchildren; and three sisters, Frances Pendarvis, Altha Lake, and Jeanette Stanley; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Coplen; four brothers, Homer, Milton, Ralph, and Carl Stanley; sisters, Marjorie Dropps and May Broadway.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 o’clock Friday morning, July 26, 2024, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will follow in Black Creek Baptist Churchyard, 4931 Black Creek Road, Walterboro.
