Mary Thomas

Mary Ellen Thomas, 94, of Ruffin, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Sunday afternoon, February 12, 2023 at her daughter’s residence in Bluffton, surrounded by family.

Born August 4, 1928, in Manatee County, Florida, she was a daughter of the late John Thompson and Annie Thompson.  She was the wife of the late Harold Charles Thomas.

Mrs. Thomas was a seamstress until she became disabled.  She was a member of Ruffin Baptist Church, where she attended faithfully and served wherever she could until her health declined.  She dearly loved her church and her church family.  She will be remembered for the Godly woman she was, and the love and compassion she showed to all those around her.  She was a devoted mother and set the example a Christian woman.  She loved to gather the children around her bed to read and tell Bible stories.  She always showed unconditional love.

Surviving are: children, Myra Jean Robinson (Johnny) of Ruffin, Sabrina June Pearce (Michael) of Walterboro, and Bridgette DeWitt (Columbus) of Bluffton; grandchildren, J.D. Robinson, Caleb Robinson (Amanda), Stacie Clark (Jeff), Jamie Hunt (Duncan), Charles “Bowinkle” Thomas (Jennifer), Justin Pearce (Cassie), Lucas Pearce, Michael Thomas, and Krystal Bunton (Ken); 17 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Harold Thomas (Ann) and John Earnest Thomas (Brenda); granddaughter, Angela Dawn Smith Ackerman; and 7 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held 2 o’clock, Thursday afternoon, February 16, 2023 at The Brice Herndon Funeral Chapel, Walterboro.  Interment will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 16147 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin.
