STRICKLAND, Mary Jo
COTTAGEVILLE Mrs. Mary Jo Reeves Strickland, 86, of 11575 Cottageville Highway in Cottageville, entered into her state of eternal rest Friday evening, April 23, 2010, at her residence. She was the widow of Mr. Louie Carlisle Strickland, Sr.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 oclock Monday morning, April 26, 2010, from the graveside at Live Oak Cemetery, Jefferies Blvd, Walterboro, with The Reverend Jessie Jerkins and The Reverend Buck Reeves officiating.
Casket bearers will be: Dr. Bozeman Reeves, Jr., Dr. Richard B. Reeves, R. Brooks Galloway, Alex G. Sheill, Stephen G. Merrimon, and R. Scott Grooms.
Born August 30, 1923, in Cottageville she was a daughter of the late Ira Robert Reeves and the late Beulah Hill Reeves. She graduated from Cottageville High School and the attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia where she graduated with a degree in elementary education. She married Carlisle in 1941 and was married for fifty-three years at the time of his death in 1994. She was a life long member of Cottageville Baptist Church where she was choir director for over thirty years. She was well known for her beautiful soprano voice and sang at many events in her life. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing but her first love was for her family, especially her grandchildren who she called her gold dots. She taught fourth grade education at Cottageville Elementary School for thirty years and also served on the Colleton County Hospital Board for twenty years.
Surviving are: three sons, Carlisle Strickland, Jr. and his wife Becky of Cottageville, Robert Micky Strickland and his wife Linda of Walterboro, and Charles Strickland and his wife Martha of Walterboro; five grandchildren, Lisa Hadwin and her husband Jay, Kim Miller and her husband Byron, Jason Strickland, Kyle Strickland, and Bryan Logan and his wife Lindsay; and four great grandchildren, Hunter and Walker Hadwin and Reagan and Carlisle Miller. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Bozeman Reeves, Sr. and Dr. I Greer Reeves; and a sister, Rachel Galloway.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Perry Family, Reverend Leroy, Bernice, Madeline, Destiny and Connie Johnson and Angie Frasier who provided such wonderful care to Mary Jo over the past twelve years. They loved her like a sister and treated her like a Queen. Also, Dr. Joseph Flowers who provided and dedicated loving medical care for many years.
