Mrs. Mary Stroud Raney, 90, of Walterboro, a longtime resident of Aiken, South Carolina, entered into rest Tuesday evening, June 13, 2023, at the Pruitt Health Care Center in Walterboro. She was the wife of the late Meredith Trotter Raney.
Born June 15, 1932, in Walterboro, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Carl M. Stroud, Sr. and the late Letha Ulmer Stroud. She made Walterboro her home nearly sixteen years ago following the death of her husband. She received her Masters from the University of South Carolina in Columbia and was a retired educator having taught High School Education in the greater Columbia area. She also taught college courses at night in Aiken for the University of South Carolina. Later, she worked and also retired from the Savannah River Site. She was a member of Great Swamp Baptist Church in Walterboro.
Surviving are: her sister, Betty Stroud Polk and her husband Dr. Hershel Polk of Walterboro; a brother, Carl M. “Bucky” Stroud, Sr. and his wife Sylvia Stroud; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Breland Stroud. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews as well as her late husband’s children and family. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Boswell Stroud.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Friday morning, June 16, 2023, from the graveside at Live Oak Cemetery, South Jefferies Boulevard, Walterboro.
