Biography
Mrs. Mary Berry Phillips, 85 of Smoaks, entered into eternal rest Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Harmony Hall Nursing Center in Kinston, NC.
Funeral Services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Smoaks Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Phillips was born September 29, 1926 in Smoaks and was the widow of Homer F. Phillips, Jr. She was the daughter of the late Walter Julius Berry and Phoebe Hiers Berry. She was a lifelong member of Smoaks Baptist Church and worked several years at Ruffin High School. She was also a member of the Skeeter Scratchers Camping Club.
Surviving are her children: Rosemary P. Goodman and her husband, Bob, of Kinston, NC, Mike Phillips and his wife, Shirley, of St. George, SC, Eddie Phillips of Hampton, SC and Dale Phillips of Rock Hill, SC.
Surviving also are 8 grandchildren: Melissa P. Marchant, Michael Phillips, Tonya P. Holt, Curt Phillips, Riley Phillips, Stephanie P. Taylor, Brent Phillips, and Raven P. Brown; as well as 13 Great-Grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Annette B. Belger; and brothers, Rev. Vincent Berry, and Calvin Berry.
The family would like to thank the staff of Harmony Hall Nursing Center in Kinston, NC for their love and compassion.
