Mary Bishop Phillips

Mrs. Mary Bishop Phillips, 87, of Beaufort, entered into rest Sunday evening, July 23, 2023, at her daughter’s residence in Yemassee.  She was the wife of forty-four years to the late Mr. Robert “Bobby” Phillips.

Born August 6, 1935 in Islandton, South Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Paschal Liston Bishop and the late Bessie Lee Polk Bishop.  She was retired from the Adjuster Department from State Farm Insurance and was a lifelong member of Adnah United Methodist Church in Islandton, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the United Methodist Woman.   She centered her life around her family and always loved flowers.

Surviving are: two daughters, Darlene Phillips Dopson and her husband Craig of Yemassee and Debbie Jane Fralix of Beaufort; a sister, Catherine “Babe” Valentine and her husband Eddie of Islandton; and three sisters-in-law.  Emma Turner Bishop of Estill, Joyce Polk Phillips of Barnwell and Doris Thompson of St. George.   There are five grandchildren, Kevin Fralix, Amanda Dopson, Jennifer Harmon (Derrick) Abby Gregorich, and Leslie McKinley (Bryce); twelve grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.   She was preceded in death by a daughter Laura Lynn Fralix; two brothers, Sonny Bishop and Lamar Bishop; and a sister, Elizabeth Crosby.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to: Adnah United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 500 Adnah Church Road, Islandton, South Carolina 29929.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o’clock Thursday morning, July 27, 2023, from Adnah Untied Methodist Church, 500 Adnah Church Road, Islandton.  The Reverend Rick Kelly officiating.   Interment will follow in the churchyard.   The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 10 o’clock that morning in the church sanctuary.
